Quranso — Privacy Policy

Effective October 27, 2026

Summary

Quranso is free and has no ads. An account is optional: you can use every part of the app as a guest. Signing in with Google only keeps your favourites, notes, streak and memorisation with you on every device. We do not sell, rent or share your information for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Your account (optional)

When the app first opens you can sign in with Google or continue as a guest; later, in Settings. If you sign in with Google, Google (through Firebase Authentication) gives us your name, email address, profile picture and an account ID. If you continue as a guest, Firebase gives the app an anonymous account ID with no name or email. We use these only to keep your things with your account and to show who is signed in. A guest can sign in with Google later and keeps what they have.

Your things with your account (sync)

While you are signed in (with Google or as a guest), your favourites, bookmarks, Hisnul Muslim favourites, notes, reading streak and memorisation place are copied to our database (Cloudflare D1), linked to your account ID, so they are on every phone or browser where you sign in. They are sent encrypted (HTTPS), and only a request carrying your own sign-in can read or change them. Signing out stops this; what is on the phone stays on the phone.

Deleting your account

In Settings, tap ⋯ beside your name, then «Delete account», and confirm. Your account and everything kept with it on our servers are deleted at once and for good. What is stored on the phone itself stays until you uninstall the app or clear its data. You can also ask us by email (below).

Information that stays on your device

Your settings, favourites, notes, reading streak, memorisation progress (the verses you reached, chose or hid, and your test results), home-screen widget settings and downloaded audio, text and pages are stored on your phone or in your browser, so the app works offline. If you are not signed in, they are not sent to us; if you are, the items listed under «sync» above are also kept with your account. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes them. You can save your favourites and notes to a file (the export and import buttons on the Favourites and Notes pages) and bring them back later; that file goes only where you choose to save it, and we never receive it.

Reminders (notifications)

If you turn on a reminder, the Android app registers with Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and sends our server a device token, the reminders you chose and their times, your language, the voice and voice language you chose and your time zone offset. To send one message to everyone who chose the same reminder, our server also adds the token to Firebase groups ("topics") named only after those choices, for example "morning adhkar, 06:00, Somali, male voice"; the names contain nothing about you. We use all of this only to send the reminders at the right time. When you turn every reminder off, the token is taken out of its groups and deleted from our server; it is also deleted when Firebase reports it is no longer valid (for example after the app is uninstalled), or when you ask us to. On the website, if you allow notifications, your browser creates a push address and keys, which we store for the same purpose, together with the times of the Azan and the reminders you turned on. The Android app can also show the Azan over the whole screen, like an alarm clock, if you allow it; that is done on your phone.

Counting how many people use Quranso

The first time the app opens it creates a random number, and at most once a day it sends that number together with the platform (Android or web) and the app version. This lets us count installs and active users. It is not linked to your name, email, location or any other information.

Microphone

The microphone is used only while you hold the voice-search button, to find the verse you recite, and while you recite from memory in Memorise (Test → Recite), to follow your recitation word by word. When you are online, the recognition is done by your device's speech service (on most Android phones, Google's), which may process the audio under its own privacy policy. If you download the offline speech model (from the Downloads page), recognition without a connection is done entirely on your phone and the audio never leaves it. With the offline following downloaded (Downloads → General: Zipformer Quran, by Quran-Lab, under its No-Profit License), your reading on the Read page is followed word by word on your phone with no connection; the audio never leaves it. Automatic checking can be wrong and does not replace a qualified teacher. Quranso does not store your recordings.

Prayer times, the qibla and location

You choose your city from a list (by default, the one that keeps your phone’s time zone), and the prayer times and the qibla direction are worked out on your phone from that city. Only if you allow it — when the app first opens, or by tapping «Use my location» — does the app ask Android for your approximate (coarse) location; it is used once, on your phone, to work out the prayer times and the qibla for where you are, and it is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can refuse it, or withdraw it in your phone’s settings, and choose a city instead. The qibla compass uses your phone’s orientation sensor, also on the phone only. The Azan at each prayer is a notification scheduled on your phone. Your place and prayer choices are kept on your phone and are not sent to us.

Home-screen widgets

The Android widgets (prayer times, today in calligraphy, the Quranso card, the player and the microphone) work entirely on your phone: the dates and prayer times are worked out on the device and need no internet, and the player widget shows only what the app is playing. Their settings are kept on your phone.

Help guide

When you type a question into the help guide (the little character in the corner of the reading page), the question is sent to our website on Cloudflare, where Cloudflare Workers AI works out which part of the app it is about. The question is not linked to you, not stored and not used to train anything; only a fingerprint of it is cached for a few days so that the same question is answered faster. Your greeting and the guide’s answers stay on your phone.

Audio, images and Quran content

Recitations, tafsir audio, images, Quran text and the word-by-word timings used in Memorise are downloaded from our hosting provider (Cloudflare; older versions of the app also from Supabase) and from Quran content services: Quran.com, alquran.cloud, everyayah.com, mp3quran.net, ummahapi.com, GitHub and jsDelivr. Like any website, these services may keep short-term technical logs (such as IP address and time of request) to deliver and protect their service. We do not send them anything about you.

Service providers

Cloudflare (the website, our database D1, audio and image storage R2, the server that sends reminders, and the help guide’s model, Workers AI) and Google Firebase (sign-in and notifications) process the limited data above on our behalf. Supabase did this before October 2026 and is being retired: until then it may still send notifications to browsers and serve content to older versions of the app. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.

Children

Quranso is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. It collects no names, emails or contacts, except the name and email of a Google account that someone chooses to sign in with.

Keeping and deleting data

Your account and what is kept with it stay until you delete the account; reminder data is kept while reminders are in use; the install number and its dates are kept to count users. You can delete your account in Settings at any time, turn reminders off in the app, and ask us to delete any data linked to you or your device by writing to quranso.help@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Security

All communication with our servers is encrypted (HTTPS), and what is kept with your account can be read only with your own sign-in. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we keep the information we hold to the minimum described here.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date. For any privacy question, write to quranso.help@gmail.com.
